Catching Up

When I first found out I was pregnant (and even before) I had every good intention in the book. Weekly pictures, blogging, letters to the baby, anything to keep a journal of this time in my life. However just as quickly real life got in the way. I started taking pictures, but then just didn't like how I looked and my body wasn't changing fast enough where I could see a difference. I thought about writing letters to the baby, but was afraid to bond with a baby because I was continually paranoid until I made it out of the first trimester. Honestly, there are some days now where I still don't feel like the pregnancy is real!

I want to recap the some of the milestone events that happened between the beginning and now (week 28). So lots of these posts will be catching up on various things baby related that I will want to remember someday. Try to not get bored, the posts will soon be more relevant and there will be more and more pictures to come!!

Telling the Parents

We debated for a while about when we should tell our parents about their grandchild. We planned a trip to Delaware for Labor Day weekend and it worked out perfectly because we got to see the baby for the first time on the ultrasound the day we left. We got up there late Friday night and were just hanging out in the kitchen with my parents while my mom finished preparing some stuff for a barbecue the next day. I had printed some pictures off of our new patio and some of the cakes I had just decorated. The last picture in the stack was a picture of my parents at dinner that I had printed with a Congratulations! border. They were both confused about the picture and that is when I told them that there was supposed to be one more picture and I pulled out the ultrasound photo. Lots of tears and hugging ensued. We also told my sister while we were home that weekend in almost the same way. Apparently since we had planned this spontaneous trip to Delaware lots of people were suspicious!!

Next we had to tell Jordan's parents. We had wanted to tell them on our way back from Delaware on Monday, but the drive always wears us out, so we made plans for dinner the next night. Over at their house we enjoyed a nice dinner. After we finished Jordan told his parents that we were going to be painting the office and pulled out some paint samples to get their opinion. He laid out two pink and two blue sets of paint chips on the table. They figured out right away what we would be painting for! Again lots of tears, hugging, and happiness.

Now we had more people to keep the secret with us for the next 5 weeks! It felt good to be able to finally tell someone!!

Simple Words

When I was trying to think of a name for this blog, I kept thinking about how often your life changes with a word or phrase. For Jordan and I our life has been changing since we first started dating. Saying "yes" to that first date, hearing "offer accepted" when we bought our house, saying "yes" to Jordan's proposal, saying "I Do" on the altar in front of our family and friends. All of these moments were life changing and they all hold special memories.

Even with all those words, our lives changed forever when we saw the word "pregnant." We were happy, shocked, scared, and excited, but most importantly couldn't wait for the next step of our lives. I wanted to create this blog to give all of our friends and family, near and far, a small part of our lives and what is happening as our family is changing.
